The TomTom iPhone car kit hasn't been released quite yet, but it's apparently just passed FCC inspection (thanks, Engadget!). The inspection has revealed a couple of interesting facts that we didn't know before. In addition to possessing its own GPS, the car kit also has Bluetooth capability in order to allow hands-free calling while on the road.

This means that the TomTom mount is a charger and a dock with Bluetooth enabled and a SiRFstar GPS chipset for greater accuracy than the iPhone alone can provide. The FCC report has some sections of the manual saved, and also gives up some shots of the device itself. According to the manual, the dock will be able to attach to the windshield, or side window. It also has an adhesive disk so that you can stick it to your dashboard.

The TomTom kit can pair up with a maximum of 8 different iPhones. Presumably, this is to take into account large families that just want to buy one dock for their car. The manual also states that you'll be able to use the dock to play music from your iPhone on the car stereo. All you'll need to do is attach a 3.5mm stereo audio cable to the car kit, and your stereo.

On the whole, the car kit sounds like a very solid buy. If you're going to download the app, you might as well buy the dock. It has a bunch of nifty features, and its internal GPS should improve the efficacy of iPhone as a navigation system by a substantial amount.
