The word about the new LG 15" OLED TV already appeared on Saturday. Now LG officially announced this new largest OLED TV that will be commercially available. LG will debut the 15-inch OLED TV at the IFA 2009 later this week.
LG also announced to start selling the 15 inch OLED TV starting in November in Korea. Next year LG also plans to offer their first OLED TV in other markets.
The LG OLED TV has a cool design resembling a folded piece of paper measuring 3.2mm at the most part.
AM OLED (active matrix organic light-emitting diode) TVs are still hell of expensive, but this display technology has some great advantages. There is no need for backlight as the OLED elements light up itself. The OLED displays use much less power, but still provide better contrast and response time than LCD.
Sony had with the XEL-1 the first commercially available OLED TV on the market in 2007. A Sony XEL-2 has been rumored for IFA 2009, but not confirmed. Now that LG wants to take away Sony's commercial OLED TV lead, Sony might be forced to hit back with a larger OLED TV.
