OLED screens are one of the coolest technologies in development. We're just now reaching the point where they're starting to be feasible for smaller screens on media players and smartphones. A few monitors, including a 15" one from LG, have been released, but the cost of those is a little panic-inducing. The high expense of the technology lead us to believe that LG would be holding off from releasing any larger OLED products for a while.
According to techradar though, that simply isn't true. At the IFA conference today an LG spokesman confirmed that a 32" OLED TV would debut in 2010. Apparently the electronics manufacturer is very close to putting their 32" TV into production. It will go on sale first in Europe.
LG also announced that their 15" OLED TV will go on sale December of this year. An exact price still has not been released, but Sony's 11" TV costs a whopping $2500. LG's new product is sure to cost substantially more. OLED TVs are currently the playthings of wealthy nerds, but soon the cost will go down and everyone will have one. Savor the anticipation while you still can.
