So far, IFA 2009 is proving to be a very big conference for Samsung. They've unleashed a new line of netbooks and a slew of other devices, but none of those are quite as cool as the X3, Sammy's contribution to the CULV market. CNET reports that the X3 is an ultrathin, 4 pound notebook with 14", 15.6", and 11.6" screen options.
Samsung claims that the X3 will have a 9 hour battery life, which is made more impressive when you consider that this baby packs a dual core Intel processor of some type. It also comes with a 6 cell battery that is said to deliver six hours of constant video playback. The whole X series of notebooks will come with wireless HSPA, a 3-in-1 memory card reader, 3 USB ports, VGA, and an HDMI port.
The neatest thing about this notebook is the security feature Samsung installed on it. Whenever you boot up, the X3 takes a picture of you. If it does not match the picture of its owner, the computer is disabled. For additional protection against thieves, you'll be able to remotely lock down or wipe the data on your X3.
The big downside to this notebook has to be the price. Depending on screen size, cost will range from $1000 to $1300, which puts this on the absolute top tier of price when it comes to CULV notebooks. Is it worth it? ...Maybe. We won't really know for certain until we get a full spec list from Samsung. As neat as the X3 is, it's going to have to be extremely impressive to justify that kind of price tag.
