LED or LCD flat-screen TVs are really nice to have, but for most people they've also been prohibitively expensive. Price has really started to drop in recent months, and some of the leading flat-screen manufacturers think that we're on the brink of a huge surge in demand.

LG expects to see sales of flat-screen jump by almost 50% in 2010, according to an ABC news report. They anticipate total sales of 17 million this year, and another 25 million LCD TV sales in 2010. LG also expects plasma TV sales (Bloomberg) to rise about 33% to 4 million in 2010. Flat-screen sales are supposed to kick off this holiday season, and continue to rise through the first half of next year.

Samsung also expects 2010 to be a big year for them. While they're only expecting around 2 million LED TV sales in 2009, but that number is likely to jump to 10 million in 2010. (Reuters) LG is pretty far behind Samsung in LED sales right now (they only expect 300-400,000 this year), but they too are expecting sharp growth for the LED market in 2010. Before the IFA show last week, the chief executive of LG stated that his company would sell 5 to 7 million LED TV sets next year.

So, what does a massive increase in flat-panel TVs mean to you? Savings. In a speech before the IFA conference last week, LG chief executive Simon Kang stated that he expected a 5% retail price decrease next year due to heightened competition. If you're looking to pick up a flat-screen television this holiday season, or early 2010, could be the most cost-effective time to do it.
