The new high capacity DVD formats blu-ray and HD-DVD are going to show presence at the CES 2005 this week.
The Blu-ray Disc Association has several speakers placed in events. The press announcements says: "The speaking engagements communicate to the consumer electronics industry how Blu-ray Disc will maximize the high definition experience for content providers and consumers alike."
The HD-DVD Promotion Group formed by Toshiba, Sanyo and NEC is of course also present at the show. NEC will show its recently announced HD DVD Drive that supports HD-DVD, DVD and CD. I will keep an eye on new Blu-ray and HD-DVD devices at the CES.
About Blu-ray Disc:
Blu-ray Disc is a next-generation optical disc format being developed for high-definition video and high-capacity software applications. A single-layer Blu-ray Disc will hold up to 25 gigabytes of data and a double-layer Blu-ray Disc will hold up to 50 gigabytes of data.
About HD-DVD:
HD-DVD (for High-Density Digital Versatile Disc) is a digital optical media format, and is one of the specifications being proposed as the standard for high-definition DVD. HD-DVD is promoted by Toshiba, NEC, and Sanyo, and backed by four major film studios, and is currently engaged in a format war with the Blu-ray Disc proposed by Sony.
HD-DVD has a capacity of 15 GB (for dual-sided HD-DVD, maximum capacity would be 30 GB).
