Do you like your rumors with a side of high-level corporate nastiness? If so, you've visited on the right day! Joystiq reports that the head of Square Enix, one Yoichi Wada, has stated that the Wii successor is due in 2011. Mr. Wada also laughed off Microsoft and Sony's attempts at motion control systems, predicting they will have very little impact.
Wada believes the new Wii will add several features to the console that are also found on the PS3 and 360, namely high-definition video. He also thinks that the 2011 launch may herald the release of a new type of controller for the Wii, although no further details were forthcoming.
The question that falls to us now is this; was Wada speaking out of any sort of "insider" knowledge, or was he just making wild predictions? If Square is developing new games for the next gen Wii, it would make sense for him to have some first-hand information. That said, without some sort of official Nintendo announcement, this rumor should be taken with a big ol' grain of salt.
