USB 3.0 gets a lot of attention the Intel Developer conference IDF this week. You almost get the feeling USB 3.0 is finally here for the masses, but in reality it is just starting.
To benefit from upcoming USB 3.0 enabled gear you could upgrade your notebook with the USB 3.0 ExpressCard from Fresco Logic that The Register (via ExpressCard-Info) spotted at the IDF.
Not many details are available on this card, besides it gives you USB 3.0 speeds. Fresco Logic actually makes the FL1000 PCI Express to USB 3.0 Single-Chip Host Controller, which other companies can build into ExpressCards.

The FL1000 single-chip solution supports the USB 3.0 Rev 1.0 specification and is backward compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1. On the host-side interface, the FL1000 is compatible with all systems that implement PCI Express, both the 1.0 and 2.0 revisions are supported. The FL1000 integrates the 5 Gbps USB 3.0 transceiver, a USB 3.0 xHCI controller based on the most recent version of the xHCI specification, and a PCI Express controller and transceiver.

There could be some USB 3.0 hardware still coming in time for the holidays. More USB 3.0 devices are expected to flood the market in 2010.
