As you've probably heard, people are just a little excited about Tegra. The new chip from Nvidia is capable of rendering high quality video with very low power consumption. The Tegra chip is also an excellent multitasker, which makes it a perfect choice for smartbooks and their ilk. At least, that's what Foxconn (from Digitimes) must have figured when they built an 8.9" smartbook around it.
This new smartbook has already been picked up by telecom providers in Europe and North America, and should arrive in stores before the end of the year. Another smartbook by Compal Communication is also expected to hit this holiday season. Asustek, Quanta, Wistron, and Inventec are all also allegedly working on Tegra-based products.
Nvidia's definitely succeeded in building a lot of buzz up around their new chip. Smartbooks need to be fast-booting, with a long battery life and the ability to handle high-def playback efficiently and with a low power drain. Tegra is perfect for that sort of application, which is why we're going to see Tegra-based devices flood the market over the next year.
