Apple announced only two new Gadgets at the MacWorld Expo 2005 in San Francisco.
I just got back from the Apple Exhibition and yes the iPod Shuffle is cool. A masterpiece in minimalistic gadget design. I like it. I have a full video of the iPod Shuffle presentation and demo that I should be able to post by tomorrow.
The iPod Shuffle flash memory music player comes in 512MB ($99) and 1GB ($149) versions. The tiny white music player weighs less than an ounce and has no display. The idea is that users can sync. music via iTunes onto the player and most of the time use the random playback (shuffle).
Apple also offers accessories that are all priced at $29. Available accessories include: Armband, iPod Shuffle Dock, AAA Battery Pack, USB Power Adaptor and the water proof sport case. That Apple offers already accessories makes it a bit hard for iPod accessory companies. The only thing missing is a FM Transmitter for the iPod Shuffle.
Besides the iPod Shuffle Apple also released a minimalistic computer the Mac mini ($499). It measures 6.5"x6.5"x2" and weighs 2.9 pounds. The Mac Mini has a 1.25Ghz PowerPC G4 CPU, 40GB HD, 256MB RAM, CD Combo Drive, 32MB ATI Radeon 9200 Graphics Card. There is also a stronger model that sells for $599. The Mac mini comes without any accessories. I am not sure what I should think about the Mac mini. I guess time will tell how successful it will be.
More details about the new Apple Gadgets at the Apple Store.
Apple made several interesting Software announcements like iLife and iWorks, but I think its a bit dissapointing that Apple did not announce any new HD iPods. The 4GB iPod mini is getting old.
