The very first camera phones started to come out back when I was in high school. It was a pretty big deal to have a phone that could take pictures, and in some cases even movies. Sure, the cameras were terrible. We didn't care; the novelty was enough. And now that the novelty of camera phones has worn off, Samsung's created one that's badass enough to stand up on its own in either role; welcome to the SCH-W880. (via Samsung Hub)

Most camera phones look like phones with little cameras stuck in the back. The W880 is the exact opposite; a camera with a phone tacked onto it. Tipster's say the phone's camera is 12 megapixels with a high-res sensor and optical zoom, plus HD video recording. The phone itself has a 3.3" WVGA AMOLED touchscreen. WiFi, GPS, and an SD card slot are also expected.

I really like the idea of the W880, but I'm just not sure how well a phone like this will do. Compared to modern smartphones, it looks very clunky and thick. That's fine for a camera, but I'm not sure how many people are going to want a high-quality camera with a phone attached. Having one of these would be really convenient for a normal person, but if you're a photography buff you're probably going to want to spend all of your camera dollars on, well, a camera. Not an attached cellphone.
