Shopping Tips

Amazon announced today the new Kindle U.S. & International Wireless which can be ordered and used around the world in over 100 countries.
Amazon takes an interesting approach and ships the new international Kindle eBook reader from the US Amazon store. This way requires higher shipping costs and also import fees (customs fees).
The price of the Kindle U.S. & International Wireless is $279. Having it shipped to Germany brings the total cost up to $356.98, which includes shipping and an Import Fee Deposit.

With the deposit the shipping company is supposed to clear the Kindle for you through customs. Sounds very convenient. Let's see if this works. Because of the weak Dollar the price in Euro for the new Kindle eBook reader is about €243.
This low price will mess up the German eBook reader market quite a bit. For instance the Sony PRS-505 has about the same price but does not offer the 3G wireless network connectivity and has much less storage.
