Trademark and patent battles are nothing new in the technology world. These sorts of legal fights happen all the time and often they go the way of the larger of the two companies fighting. A company called Man & Machine makes a line of sealed peripherals for hospitals and medical offices that can be cleaned and disinfected without damaging the devices.
Among these offerings is a sealed mouse called the Mighty Mouse. You may or may not recognize the Mighty Mouse name as what Apple calls some of its Mac mice as well. Man & machine has announced that the USPTO has granted it a trademark on the name Mighty Mouse for use on computer mice in the US.
That means that Apple will no longer be able to call its Mac mouse the Mighty Mouse. Apparently, Apple was trying to trademark the name as well. "Others have used the name MIGHTY MOUSE for their computer mice and have sought registration of that trademark, but now the United States government has spoken," said Clifton Broumand, CEO and Big Cheese, Man & Machine, Inc. "We look forward to the continuation and expansion of the Mighty Mouse line of waterproof mice."
