Here's something neat. Smartbook manufacturer Mobinnova is working on an 8.9" mini-computer called the Beam. This tiny mobile runs on Windows CE, can playback HD video, and packs an Nvidia Tegra chipset. According to SlashGear this little mini-computer should be hitting in January of 2010.

When this smartbook (or netbook, or whatever you want to call it) launches, it'll be with an as-of-yet unnamed carrier subsidizing it. Mobinnova has stated that this device will not come with an app store, but that there may be downloadable apps and games for it upon release. Though the Beam comes with a GPS, a navigation app will not be included.

According to Engadget, the Beam should be able to handle HD playing for 5 to 10 hours, or up to 24 hours of continuous music playback. If so, this could be a perfect portable media solution for a lot of people. Here's hoping the subsidized price will be reasonable when this baby launches in January.
