Now is a good time to remind everyone that all rumors are not created equal. Sometimes a leak will come out that everyone knows is true. The only thing it lacks is official confirmation from the source. Other times, we'll come across a leak or a rumor that seems almost too weird, silly, or unrealistic to possibly exist. This rumor is one of the latter.
DialAPhone (via Engadget) has come across a possible European roadmap for Motorola's Q4 2009-Q1 2010 releases. It looks like every other roadmap we've ever seen, but the devices it claims to portend sound a little...unbelievable.
First off, there's a Sholes tablet listed as a Q1 2010 release. This tablet would pack a 3.7" touchscreen, 8 MP camera, and 720p video playback. It sounds a lot more like a badass smartphone than a tablet to me. The map also contains the Sholes smartphone, due out in October of '09. That much is accurate, at least.
There are two other new Moto devices; the Motus, and the Zeppelin. Both are due out in Q1 of 2010. The Motus has a 3.1" touchscreen and a 5 MP camera, and WiFi. The Zeppelin has the same stats, and a weird remote-looking design to boot.
If any of these devices are, in fact, real, we should hear some independent confirmation within the next few weeks. All it'll take is a leaked screenshot of a Sholes tablet or a Zeppelin to get the tech bloggers good and riled up. Unfortunately, I have my doubts that we'll ever see as much as that. Why on earth would Moto put out a tablet version of an existing smartphone?
