I am looking since a while for a good solution to stream videos from my PC to my TV downstairs. I found the Hauppauge MediaMVP device that is as far as I know the cheapest way to do it. I ordered one yesterday.
The Hauppauge MediaMVP sells for a low $80-90.
The Hauppauge MediaMVP is a Linux based digital media receiver based on a IBM PowerPC processor. It includes a hardware MPEG decoder to process digital video movies, while music and digital pictures are software decoded by MediaMVP’s processor. It has a Ethernet connection. To connect the MediaMVP to a Wireless Network a Ethernet Bridge is needed. I got the new Linksys WET54G (WET54G on Sale at Amazon).
The MediaMVP can stream Video in MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and DivX formats. It streams music in MP3, WMA formats. The MediaMVP can also stream Internet Radio stations directly. Of course it also can do photo slide shows (jpg, gif). The device comes with a remote and is only 6x6 inch small. Amazon sells the Hauppauge MediaMVP for $89.99.
I will publish a review of the MediaMVP next week. Let see if it lives up to the promisses.
