Are you looking forward to Black Friday? The recession and plumetting price of consumer electronics could make this year one of the best years for deals ever. Even if you hate braving the holiday crowds, the sacrifice could be worth it. After all, how often do you get the chance to buy a new Blu-ray player for under $100?
Video business reports that an analyst from the NPD group has predicted holiday Blu-ray prices of $99 for Blu-ray players. Some name-brand players, like the new JVC device, are already down to $200. It's not hard to imagine prices dropping to half that. Analyst Ross Rubin even stated that prices as low as $49 for non-name brand players could be seen.
If current demand and pricing trends hold steady, Blu-ray players could hit 50% of home video player purchases by as early as 2010. Retailers and manufacturers alike want to increase this number. More player sales means more Blu-ray DVD sales. The profit on those could be well worth a substantial discount on the players themselves.
