Flash memory just got a little flashier. As Electronista reports Samsung has just revealed yet another advance in NAND flash memory. Their new chip fits 32 GB onto a single .02” thick chip. According to the Korean-based company, this new advance was managed by using a new “bare” package that is half as thick, but apparently as sturdy, as the old one.
So what does this mean for you? More memory that takes up less space inside your smartphone and PMD. Outside of Samsung itself, it's not known if there are any confirmed customers for this new chip yet. Electronista notes that Apple is Samsung's biggest customer, so it's possible this breakthrough could translate into a 64 GB iPhone next year.Posted on Wed, 4 Nov 2009 08:30:46 CST | by Robert Evans
