In September the Sony PS3 outsold the Nintendo Wii in the U.S. for the first time since forever. According to the independent NPD Group the Nintendo Wii is back in October on the #1 spot.
The Nintendo Wii sold 507,000 consoles, 321,000 PS3 consoles sold Sony and 250,000 Xbox 360 were sold by Microsoft.
It looks like the new low PS3 price and the new Slim model are already wearing thin.
Nintendo also sold a ton of DS and DSi consoles in October. Nintendo’s hand-helds, Nintendo DSi and Nintendo DS Lite, combined to sell more than 457,000 units, and is actually placed second in overall video game hardware sales.
Four games published for Nintendo systems finished in the top 10 best-sellers of October in the United States.
These include Wii Fit Plus at No. 5 with nearly 232,000 sold, Wii Fit Plus (with the Wii Balance Board accessory) at No. 6 with more than 209,000 sold, Wii Sports Resort with two Wii MotionPlus accessories at No. 8 with nearly 179,000 sold and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days for Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi at No. 10 with more than 169,000 sold.
Overall the NPD Group saw a 23% decline in U.S. hardware sales in October. The reason for that is in part due to the fact that the Sony PS3 Slim launched in September and the newness is now gone. In September the PS3 shipped 491,800 compared to 321,000 in October. There are 250,000 consoles missing so to say in the calculation as the Wii sales stayed almost the same. The Xbox sold 100,000 less units as the Xbox price-cut wears off too.
