AMD Opteron Powers Most Powerful Supercomputer in the World

AMD has announced that their powerful six-core Opteron processors are now being used inside the Oak Ridge National Laboratory Jaguar supercomputer. Jaguar has recently been upgraded with the new six-core Opteron CPUs.
The newly updated supercomputer is capable of 2.3 petaflops/s theoretical peak performance and 1.75 petaflops/s performance on the Linpack benchmark. AMD Opteron CPUs are used inside four of the top five supercomputers.
The Jaguar pushed the roadrunner supercomputer out of the top spot. Roadrunner is also powered by AMD Opteron processors. AMD also mentioned that they plan to unveil a new Bulldozer processor with up to 16 cores in 2011.
