There isn't a self-respecting gadget nerd alive who doesn't want a multitouch tablet notebook or netbook. The new UI possibilities that multitouch brings to the table are dizzying, and reason enough to want a tablet as soon as possible. That's why I'm so excited about Acer's new Aspire Timeline 1820PT tablet. It's just shown up in Australian online stores (via Netbooked), and could be heading to the US in short order.
The 1820PT is a tablet worth getting psyched for. It packs an Intel Core 2 Duo 1.2 GHz processor, 2 GB of DDR3 RAM, a 250 GB HD, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, and GMA 4500 MHD graphics. The OS is Windows 7 Home Premium, and it has a 6-cell battery capable of 8 hours of use. The screen is multitouch capable and 11.6" in size. Droolworthy, right?
Unfortunately, this thing isn't going to come cheap. Right now it's selling for between $1,354 and $1,599 AUD, which comes to between $1,200 and $1,500 USD. Netbooked notes that notebooks are much more expensive in Australia, so the actual US price is likely to be way, way less. How much less, and when it will launch here, remains to be seen.
