Sony, IBM and Toshiba to reveal PS3 powering Cell Chip Today

Today at the International Solid-State Circuits Conference in San Francisco the long awaited Cell Processor will be revealed by Sony, IBM and Toshiba. The Cell processor is supposed to power the new Sony Playstation 3 (PS3).
The three companies are working on the Cell Chip CPU since 2001 (see also our first Cell Chip report). The chip is supposedly featuring four cores and is more powerful than what Intel and AMD currently have in their stable. High definition TVs and the PS3 due 2006 will be using the new Cell chip. We will know more later today when the announcements are made.
