Core i7 iMacs Arriving Broken or Cracked?

Apple's new Core i7 iMac has been receiving rave reviews across the tech blogs. The 27" version has even caused some journalists to issue proclamations of love for the behemoth. And yet, all is not perfect in paradise. An increasing number of reports have come out hinting at a major problem in either Apple's quality control, or shipping department.
Engadget reports that their i7 iMac arrived dead on arrival. When set up and plugged in, it refused to boot at all. Many users have reported the same issue, and an equally large number have complained that their 27" monitors arrived cracked. Boy Genius is also reporting a slew of customer complaints, as is Gizmodo. It's clear that this problem is larger than just a few isolated issues. Something is awry at Apple.
Most likely, it's as simple as the iMac being improperly packaged and thus unable to survive undamaged the long trip overseas. Apple is generally excellent about packaging their products adequately to survive shipping, but apparently they (or, more likely, the company they hire to manufacture their products) have changed things up for the worst.
Considering the breadth of the complaints, Apple is likely to address this issue officially at some point in the near future. You might want to hold off on any purchases until that point.
