Nokia to Offer only One Maemo Handset in 2010

I just mentioned that Nokia was cutting back on its global R&D with about 3% of its global workers being cut. It appears that the casualty of this will also be Nokia's Maemo handsets. Reuters reports that a source has told the publication that Nokia may only field one Maemo handset in 2010.
Many reports had Nokia moving to Maemo for its high-end handsets rather than its Symbian OS. If true, this could mean one of two things. It could be that the rumored move to Maemo was not accurate and Nokia high-end devices will continue to be offered with Symbian.
The other thing is that this could mean is that we'll only see one high-end Nokia handset in 2010. With the sales of Nokia devices down I would not be surprised to see the company go after the lower end of the market with feature phones and cheap handsets.
