As reported on Sunday, GoodGuide a consumer group in California claimed the Zhu Zhu hamster Mr. Squiggles contained unsafe levels of antimony.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has now looked into that matter and states that the solubility test for antimony in Zhu Zhu Hamsters does not exceed the federal toy standard.
GoodGuide used an x-ray fluorescence analyzer (XRF) for their testing. The federal toy standard is based on the solubility test though, and results cannot be compared. See also the GoodGuide press-release in regards to the matter.
The CPSC is still testing the Zhu Zhu Pets toys for other safety aspects because of their popularity and the testing is still underway according to the WSJ.
More details in the WSJ. Via the Cepia site.
So for now you can continue the hunt for Zhu Zhu Pets. See our Zhu Zhu Pets Shopping Guide and all our Zhu Zhu News for tips.
