Nuance is well known in the speech recognition market for computers and other devices. The company makes software that lets you talk to your computer rather than type and has a new app for the iPhone that lets you talk your texts. Nuance has announced that it will be working with Ford to expand the natural speech capabilities of the Sync platform.

Ford will be using the Nuance natural speech recognition technology in its Sync voice interface and it will power a new MyFord Touch driver connect tech launching this year. The new tech makes it easy for the driver to use their voice for commands to minimize the need to take their eyes off the road.

The Nuance tech will power commands that let the driver enter locations for the navigation system with their voice, find radio stations by saying the type of music they want and get info from satellite radio by saying get me scores and the like. It sounds cool, but I have had trouble with a few Nuance apps with it not recognizing my speech, I'm not sure if it's just my voice or if the software doesn't do well with southern accents.
