A report saying that there is progress in the discussions between Sony and Toshiba on unifying the next generation DVD formats was showing up on the Nihon Keizai Shimbun. Toshiba published a statement on it's site states that there is no progress yet and they did not made any concessions yet, as claimed in the Shimbun article.
Quote from the Toshiba Statement:
"The indication that a unification agreement on the basis of a 0.1mm disc system is imminent is unfounded and erroneous. Given this, Toshiba does not intend to make any proposal on unification to the members of the HD DVD Promotion Group. "
Toshiba also says it will present a new higher capacity HD DVD-ROM disc at Media-Tech Expo 2005 in Las Vegas.
As reported a couple weeks ago Sony and Toshiba started at least to talk to agree on single standard for the next generation DVD standard - which of course would be a really good thing.
