Autonomous VW Touareg Stanley Shines at Press Event

Volkswagen showed off the autonomous Touareg prototype that will take part in the DARPA Grand Challenge 2005 this autumn.
The Volkswagen Touareg called Stanley has been developed by the Electronics Research Laboratory (ERL) of Volkswagen and the Stanford
University. Stanley was driving without a driver across a off road park in German Oschersleben.
Juergen H. was at the press-event and posted several photos on his blog.
The Stanley autonomous vehicle is based on a standard Touareg, but is rigged with tons of sensors including, radar, laser detectors and GPS. The brain of Stanley consists of 7 Intel Pentium motherboards running at 1.6Ghz. More details in this press-release (German).
