We reported about the first Sony PSP 'Virus' the other day. Now Symantec classifies the fake patch as a Trojan and gives it the name Trojan.PSPBrick.
Symantec's description:
"Trojan.PSPBrick is a Trojan horse that deletes critical system files on a Playstation Portable device, preventing the device from restarting correctly. "
Symantec Virus scan will detect the fake patch when a user downloads it to his PC."
German Heise reports that users who got their PSP bricked, got it replaced at retailers with no issue. The assume the reason for this is, that it is hard to verify if the defect is from the Trojan.
More details on the Symantec site.
