Samsung To Launch Music Download Service - So What?
Posted on Mon, 31 Oct 2005 02:05:00 CST | by Luigi Lugmayr | Topic: Portable Devices
Samsung says that the company plans to launch a Apple iTunes competing music download service.
That a consumer electronics company is launching a music download service is nothing new. Sony has their Connect service up since a long time. And as we all know it is no threat to iTunes. So why would the Samsung music store be able to be a threat to iTunes? And there are other open music download services too from Yahoo, Napster, Wal-Mart you name them.
Telecoms Korea (Thanks Larry R.) broke the story first as far as I can see and they write: "If Samsung launches its version of iTunes service, it is expected to be a major threat to Apple." I bet it will not.
I wonder what would happen if Apple decides to offer WMA-DRM music downloads from iTunes next to their iPod only format...
