Sony announces a new member of their ultra-compact Cybershot T-Series digital cameras - The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T9.
The Sony Cyber-shot T9 follows the Cyber-shot DSC-T5 (Buy Now) introduced in August and the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-T7 (Buy Now).
Sony was able again to improve the looks of this new T-Series digital camera. (more photos below) It has a very refined case design and looks very elegant in black and silver.
Sony improved the quality of the Sony DSC-T9 with an enhanced image stabilization mode and a high ISO 640 sensitivity to improve photos made in dark rooms. Former Cyber-shot T-Series cameras have had rather poor performance in dark rooms. The new DSC-T9
promises to solve this.
The size of the T9 89.7mm x 54.9mm x 20.6mm (16.8mm without the sliding lens cap). It is a couple mm smaller than the DSC-T7 (91.7 x 60 x 14.8mm), but 2mm thicker.
Other features of the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T9 include: 3x optical zoom, 1.3s startup time, 0.01s shutter release lag, 0.25s shutter lag, 2.5 inch LCD screen, video capture with 640x480px at 30fps and 16:9 photo mode.
The Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-T9 will be released on November 18th in Japan. LetsGoDigital reports that the Sony T9 will sell in the US starting in January for about $450. Update: Just found out that Sony also published a press-release in the US stating the same January release date.
More details also in this Sony press-release (Japanese) and on the Japanese Sony Cyber-shot site.
Sony also announced the Sony DSC-N1 in Japan today, which was already available for pre-order in the United States. The DSC-N1 is slightly bigger, but features 8.1MP!, a 3 inch touch screen and a bigger lens.
I actually would buy the DSC-N1, it just more powerful and only a bit bigger, no need to wait for the DSC-T9.
