I was leaning back and decided to check out what new gadgets the Hammacher and Schlemmer store has to offer. Then when I saw that they are actually selling a 7 foot tall Robby The Robot for the bargain price of $49,999.95, I nearly fell out of my chair.
Robby is from the classic sci-fi film Forbidden Planet from 1956.
Robby the robot is created from the same blueprints, molds, and templates used to create the original costume. Robby is made by renowned artist Fred Barton.
The robot is pre-programmed to deliver his famous lines from the original movie, and the remote control allows you to adjust the robot’s volume, track selection, and start and stop functions. Robby can also be prompted to move his computer relay assembly, rotate his servo-controlled head, spin his planetary gyro stabilizers, and rotate his scanners while his various lights flash.
This robot does not walk or move around. You would expect this for a price of $49,999.95. That leaves Robby the Robot for hard-core fans, who want to decorate their living room
with him.
More details on Hammacher and Schlemmer.
If you cannot afford the live-size Robby, Hammacher has you covered with Wind-Up Robby for $19.99.
