Seiko Epson introduces in Japan two new projection HDTVs with 1080p resolution (1920×1080 pixels). The new 65 inch ELS-65GL1 and the 55 inch ELS-55GL1 are released under the Seiko Epson Livingstation G-Series line.
There are already lots of 1080p rear-projection HDTVs on the market in the United States. It is still the most
cost-effective way to get a large screen with the full HDTV resolution. Plasma and LCD HDTVs in sizes of 55 or 65 inch are still way more expensive.
The new rear projection Epson ELS-65GL1 and ELS-55GL1 HDTVs feature a 6,000:1 contrast ratio, sound system from Onkyo, HDMI interface, VGA interface, USB port for a printer (a must for Epson) and a memory card slot for photo viewing.
The 65 inch 1080p HDTV sells for about $5,838.72 and the 55 model for about $5,000 and will start shipping in December.
More details in this Seiko Epson press-release (Japanese), on the Seiko Epson Livingstation site and on PC Watch (Japanese), who reports about the Seiko Epson Presentation event.
