Pioneer announces a 50 inch 1080p Plasma HDTV at the CES 2006.
Panasonic already announced a 50 inch 1080p Plasma HDTV. What is interesting about the Pioneer 1080p Plasma is that it will start selling in May for $10,000. So now I know that I will not wait for a 1080p Plasma TV and still be buying a "standard" Plasma HDTV.
Pioneer says: "To date, most HD televisions have offered 720 progressive lines of resolution or 1080 interlaced lines of resolution. While both offer excellent HDTV viewing, the newest televisions with 1080 progressive lines of resolution are by far superior, bringing high definition television to a new dimension."
The new dimension is the price...
Pioneer also announced a Blu-ray Disc player dubbed BDP-HD1. It will be available in June at a suggested price of $1,800, even more expensive than the Samsung BD-1000.
As a third home theater product Pioneer announced the EX speakers. Pioneer's EX reference loudspeakers using a beryllium tweeter diaphragm, magnesium midrange driver and the groundbreaking Precision Curve cabinet design that envelops the listener in a "virtual sphere" of pure 5.1 surround sound.
