Sony enters the Hard-drive based digital camcorder market to compete with JVC and Toshiba.
The Sony Handycam DCR-SR100 has a 3MP CCD, Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* lens and can record 5.1ch Dolby surround sound. Sony's first HDD camcorder comes with a 30GB hard-drive and a 2.7 inch screen. The DCR-SR100 supports Sony's new optional center-channel Bluetooth microphone for a cinematic sound experience.
Sony has not issued a press-release yet.
You can record up to seven hours of DVD movie-quality video or more than 21 hours in long play mode with the Sony HDD Handycam. You can also take still captures in 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratios. The DCR-SR100 has a built-in flash.
It incorporates G-sensor shock protection which safeguards internal mechanisms to help prevent data loss.
The Sony DCR-SR100 will be available in May for about $1,100.
More details in this Sony press-release. See also Engadget for some photos of the DCR-SR100 live from the CES.
