The Financial Times reports today that Microsoft will most likely miss their set goal of selling about 3Mio. Xbox 360 in 90 days.
There are still supply issues with the Xbox 360 for January. The 90 days are over in mid February. Microsoft expects though to sell until June 4,5 to 5,5 Million consoles. There are now three manufacturers building Xbox 360s (Celestica, Flextronics and Wilstron).
Bill Gates, said in an interview with CNET that the Xbox 360 availability was just great. Interesting definition of great. He also said: "We are shipping faster than any videogame has ever shipped. The thing is just hot, and I spent over 100 hours playing with it over Christmas. "
As there will be no Sony PS3 anytime soon, Microsoft is still the only next generation game console in town.
Goldman and Sachs Rick Sherlund estimates that 1,3 Mio. Xbox 360 have been shipped so far. He also estimates that Microsoft currently produces 600,000 to 800,000 consoles per month.
More details on Forbes.
In other news, apparently Team I.C.E. has developed the first mod chip for the Xbox 360. Information about the availability (Thanks Dan A.) are a bit murky, but maybe it is for real.
