Nintendo announces a new Nintendo DS version dubbed Nintendo DS lite.

The new Nintendo DS lite is thinner, smaller and lighter than the original DS portable game console. It measures 133x73.9x21.5mm and weighs 218g. The original Nintendo DS measures 148.7x84.7x28.9mm and weighs 275g. The screen of the DS lite is supposed to be brighter with 4 settings.
Nintendo will launch the DS lite on March 2nd in Japan with a MSRP of 16,800 Yen (~$145). No word yet when the DS lite will be available outside of Japan.
The Nintendo DS lite looks overall a bit slicker than the orignal DS. The new more compact DS is a good move. A wide screen like the Sony PSP has would have been nice though.
So there was some truth to the rumor about a new Nintendo DS announcement that was supposed to come 10 days ago.
