NTT DoCoMo announces that they will demonstrate three HSDPA mobile phone prototypes at the 3GSM 2006 conference in Barcelona.
HSDPA is a high-speed packet transmission technology standardized by the Third Generation Partnership Project. It offers a theoretical maximum downlink speed of about 14Mbps - smokin'.
The prototype handsets currently available have maximum speeds of 3.6Mbps, 10 times faster than current 3G FOMA handsets. The HSDPA enabled mobile phones come from NEC, Motorola and Fujitsu (see photo).
DoCoMo aims to start HSDPA services sometime between July and September 2006 in Japan.
The 3GSM World Congress 2006 takes place this year in Barcelona, Spain from February 13 to 16 (site).
