NEC, Sony and Toshiba Jointly Work on 45nm LSI Chips

NEC Electronics joins Sony and Toshiba in the research and development of the next generation 45 nanometer LSI chip technologies.
Currently used LSI (Large Scale Integration) chips are manufactured with 90nm technology.
LSI chips are doing work in many consumer electronics including LCD TVs and mobile phones.
NEC Electronics, Sony, and Toshiba plan to raise development efficiency and further accelerate the pace of development. Possibly in 2008 the first products with 45nm LSI chips will become available.
In February 2004, Sony and Toshiba announced already their collaboration on 45-nm system LSI process technology development.
