TiVo will announce today a new service that lets parents control what their kids are watching with TiVo.
Parental controls have been available for a while in TVs and cable boxes. They are not easy to use and really flexible. Additionally kids usually figure out how to circumvent them.
TiVo's KidZone software uses ratings issued by Common Sense Media and the Parents Television Council.
Kids will only be able to watch approved programming by either of those organizations based on the age range the parents configure on their TiVo. Parents can also proactive record recommended shows for their kids.
TiVo will update existing TiVo boxes for free with KidZone in June. More details in the New York Times.
TiVo is supposed to hold a press-conference today in New York to announce KidZone.
