QualComm's FLO is making waves at the CTIA Wireless conference in Las Vegas.
QualComm has setup FLO in Las Vegas city-wide during the CTIA show. Using two FLO transmitters, the demonstration network will feature multicast of multiple channels of QVGA resolution video content, audio content and data transmissions for IP datacasting applications across the city of Las Vegas. Kyocera, Samsung, Pantech, Sharp and LG have FLO enabled handset on display.
FLO technology is a multicast technology and is key component of the MediaFLO system. The solution is an air-interface technology designed to increase capacity and coverage, and reduce cost for multimedia content delivery to mobile handsets.
QualComm says that FLO technology offers several advantages over other mobile multicast technologies, including higher-quality video and audio, faster channel switching time, superior mobile reception, optimized power consumption and greater capacity than other multicast technologies.
A German T-Mobile manager recently confirmed that MediaFlo is better than DVB-H. So MediaFlo could bring the United States to the forefront of mobile digitial TV.
