MTV and Microsoft launch their music download service URGE this Wednesday.
URGE will be integrated into the new version of Microsoft Windows Media Player that will be available in a couple of weeks as an update. The new URGE player will be available this week for direct download.
URGE will have more than 2 million tracks, which can be purchased individually at 99c or as full albums starting at around $9.95.
URGE is very late to the music download business. Most portable music players on the market are iPods. I do not think URGE will change that, even if the shop is integrated into Windows. The only interesting new music player from the Microsoft camp is the Toshiba Gigabeat S. Microsoft needs to be more innovative in this area if they want to bother Steve Jobs.
More details in this AP story on Yahoo! and on the URGE site.
