New CD Service Creates a 'Ripping Revolution'

Ripping Revolution announced Wednesday their new CD ripping service. For those of you with tons of CDs that you haven't yet ripped to your iPod or PSP, Ripping Revolution is offering you the ability to ship your entire CD collection to their headquarters in San Marcos, CA, where they will rip your collection to digital format usually within a few days.

Touting the process as "three easy steps", you have to go to their website, fill out the order form, wait for them to send you a "rip kit", mail your CDs to them via FedEx, wait for them to rip all your music, and then wait for it to be shipped back to you. Obviously this service is geared towards people who have a monstrous CD collection, but at upwards of $1.30 per CD (and a minimum order of 50 CDs) it can obviously get expensive very fast. Especially considering there are at least a dozen free CD ripping programs available on the web, it's interesting that this service has sprung up now. Most digital media-savvy music lovers have probably already ripped all their CDs without spending a cent. But I guess if you have a huge CD collection, a fair amount of discretionary income, and you like every song on every CD that you own, this service could be enticing. But I just don't think there are that many people like that out there.

More info, including Ripping Revolution's first press release, is at their website.
