Nokia Releases S60 Web Browser into Open Source

Nokia today announced the source code release of their S60 Web Browser to the open source community.

Nokia announced the innovative mobile browser in November 2005.

The navigation on the S60 web browser is done by moving a viewing area around on the page. Scaled down pages are used to navigate between pages.

Other features include mouse pointer, Text Search, dynamic HTML, W3C's HTML, XHTML 1.0, DOM, CSS and SVG-Tiny standards support.
The first Nokia devices to include the Web browser for S60 will be ESeries (E60, E61 and E70) and NSeries devices (N71, N73, N80, N91, N92 and N93), as well as the Nokia 3250 Phone.
The web browser source code released by Nokia comes under the terms of the open source BSD License.

If you are a developer visit the nokia open source site to download the Nikia S60 OSS browser. It is actually based on the WebCore and JavaScriptCore components of Apple's Safari Web Kit that Apple uses in its Safari browser.
