Cingular announced Friday that it is suing rival wireless network Sprint over its avertising claim that Sprint is the most powerful network. This is easily seen as just an act of revenge over the fact that Sprint recently filed suit alleging that Cingular's "fewest dropped calls" claim is misleading.

Cingular became under fire recently when the Boston Globe published an article about the questionable claim by Cingular, which may be what sparked Sprint to file its suit. Cingular has also recently become a favorite punch line for Jay Leno whenever he needs a joke about an unreliable wireless network. Yet, a Cingular spokesperson still says, "By any objective measure, Cingular has a more powerful network than Sprint, and we think Sprint knows that."

I imagine this will be a drawn-out legal battle that will end up with some kind of settlement, so don't expect any court to end up having the final word about which cell phone service is the best.
