The first commercial broadcast mobile TV service launched in Germany under the somewhat weird name 'Watcha'.
The Watcha TV service is available for a monthly flat fee of 9,95 Euro in connection with a 24 month mobile phone contract from Debitel.
The only DMB ready mobile phone available is the Samsung SGH-P900 (looks like LG did not deliver yet the LG-V9000), which sells for 199 Euro with contract.
The TV service is only currently available in these major cities: Berlin, Cologne, Frankfurt, Munich and Stuttgart. There are still only four channels available. They now officially say that the FIFA World Cup 2006 games broadcasted (half of the games) on ZDF will be available.
The DVB-H community (E-Plus, Vodafone, T-Mobile and O2) has launched now at the same time trials in Germany in selected cities. However, their mobile TV service is not commercially available. This move was still enough to make the DMB launch more confusing for the potential consumers. More details about the DMB TV service in Germany in our in-depth report.
More details in this Debitel press-release (German) and on the Watcha site (German).
