In a world where video downloads are becoming increasingly commonplace, Disney has made a smart move by allowing customers to purchase digital versions of their movies on CinemaNow.
However, this will be unlike most movie download services, such as most of the titles on Movielink, because Disney is actually offering their films on a download-to-own basis. Most similar websites only let you "rent" the movie for a couple days.
CinemaNow will also reportedly roll out the feature of being able to transfer your movies onto a portable device sometime this month. No details have been released about what kinds of portable devices this pertains to. You'll also be able to make back-up DVD copies of your movies, though they will be encoded to only work on DVD-ROM drives and not on standalone DVD players.
It's unknown right now exactly which Disney films will be available, but apparently the movie studio will make future movies available for download on the same day they are released on DVD. The movies will cost $19.95 on CinemaNow, which is about the same price the full-featured DVDs cost when they come out.
