What is up with Sirius, not being able to offer a portable media player that streams live satellite audio broadcasts? XM has already their second generation (first generation) on the market.
Sirius is supposed to release a portable media player based on a new platform developed by Silicon Valley start-up Zing later this year.
Zing provides a framework for an always-connected, fully integrated audio and personal entertainment experience that spans from the device to services.
The photo shows the current reference model. The device features 8GB storage. Music can be loaded via wi-fi directly from Zing powered services. Zing will feed the Sirius channels via the Internet. So you are again limited to enjoy live Sirius broadcasts to Wi-Fi hotspots.
Zing is founded by Tim Bucher. His latest venture was Mirra, which he sold to Seagate. The company got an undisclosed investment by Redpoint Ventures.
More details in this Zing Zing and on CNET.
