Nintendo Prez Predicts Marginal-To-No Loss on Wii Sales

Partly as self promotion for Nintendo (but mainly as an attack on Sony), Nintendo's President Satoru Iwata said Wednesday that there will likely be a very small loss for each Wii console that is sold.
Of course, with Sony's ultimate powerhouse PS3 being sold at a highly undercut price for the amount of hardware that's included, Sony has previously said that they will lose about $884 million in the PS3 launch. Iwata's remarks are the polar opposite: "We are working to make the Wii business a healthy one from the first year," he says.
Since the Wii will be sold at no more than $250, Iwata's statements make clear that the console will not be a technological supermachine. The PS3 has a launch date of November 17, while Nintendo is keeping their official launch date concealed until September.
