Just a few days ago we told you about a robotic hand that could be controlled by human thought. Thursday, a new science for robotic hands was revealed. This technology, which is being studied by a couple researchers in Nebraska, would give a robot a human-like sense of touch.
In other words, the point is to create a robotic hand that is sensitive to and can react to different grooves or bumps in an object. The Nebraskan researchers said one hope is to robotically perform minimally invasive surgery.
A quote from one of their statements reads, "There is great interest in developing humanoid robots that can sense shapes, textures, and hardness and manipulate complex objects, which are not readily possible by vision alone."
